Papagayo Peninsula, Guanacaste
An open-air villa above the Pacific, built around a single, uninterrupted horizon.
Price
$4,850,000
Casa Luzia sits on a shoulder of land above the Papagayo coast, oriented so that the ocean is present in every principal room without ever being framed twice the same way. The house is organised as three low volumes connected by a covered walkway, which keeps the plan narrow, the cross-ventilation constant and the air conditioning largely optional.
Living, dining and kitchen share one continuous space that opens along its full length onto the terrace. Sliding panels retract completely, so the distinction between inside and outside is a matter of shade rather than glass. The infinity pool runs parallel to the horizon line and reads, from the living room, as an extension of the sea.
Materials are deliberately few: board-formed concrete, local hardwood, honed travertine and dark steel. They are left to weather. The primary suite occupies the western volume with its own terrace and outdoor shower; three further bedrooms sit in the eastern volume, each with direct garden access.
The Papagayo Peninsula is a planned concession area, which makes it unlike anywhere else on the Costa Rican coast. Building density, height, materials and even planting are governed centrally, and large portions of the peninsula are held permanently as forest.
Exact coordinates are shared with qualified buyers during a private viewing.
